Every school owner’s dream among other things is to make as much money from every available resource. However, for most schools, their only source of income is the tuition fee paid by students or grants from education funds.
If you know your onions, earning passively may perhaps bring your school more income than paid tuition fees.
Your school can make passive income in the following ways;
- Arts and skill craft: students can be tutored on entrepreneurial skills in craft making, while the school board provides materials for production. The students are then encouraged to use their skills for production. These students should however be compensated for their labour while the school markets their craft for income. Such crafts could be cane chair making, bead accessories, paintings on canvas etc.
- Agriculture: agriculture remains a viable source of passive income for any school. From seasonal cultivation of vegetable crops which can be tended by students under supervision of teachers even as they crops are used for experiments. Fishery also is a viable option for school with large perimeters to accommodate ponds or make shift ponds.
- Bookshops and stationery stores: most reputable schools own bookshops to provide educational materials for its students and also the host community. The book shop may also customize certain educational materials such as notebooks in the name of its host school for sale.
If you consider the peculiarities in your environment and the opportunities that are available to your school, a passive means of income other than tuition fees is an option you should consider.
