Let’s go!

Efe had just dropped her school bag in her classroom before she made for the assembly hall to join the rest of the school. She wore a look of embarrassment and anger as she briskly journeyed through the corridor that links the assembly hall with the ten big classrooms on the second floor of the magnificent Trinity College. She hated the moment and wanted an end to it as soon as possible. What made her wished she could turn into thin air and meet herself in the assembly hall were the latecomers on the same journey to the hall storming out of different classrooms who expressed their shock but were at the same time happy that Efe was in the same shoe with them today. She was a latecomer. ‘I will never forgive myself for this. ‘ She scorned’. Efe had never for once in the past ten years she had been a student at Trinity College come late to school. She finds it had to believe it happened.
She wished she could move faster than she was doing but she could not help herself better. Apart from being stressed and tired, her big body would not allow her. One of the reasons she wished she was never born. Efe was the biggest in her class and this had earned her a nick-name by her classmates Fatty-Efe.

Efe became more nervous as she walked closer to the hall. Apart from the drama, that would happen in the hall when everybody sees that she is late, Mrs. Henshaw, her class teacher would never take a flimsy excuse for an explanation. She was not ready for any of the drama. She already had enough last night. The more she remembers last night the more she feels nothing good about herself. It was the night she wished she was never born more than she had ever wished in the past times. She was never going to tell anyone. She already had a plan.
As the event of last night plays back in her memory like a movie set in a backward mode, tears rolled down her chubby cheeks. She quickly wiped her face with the tie on her breast, the one that comes with her uniform. ‘My tie will look wet’ she regretted not coming with her handkerchief. ‘But it is better than being caught crying’.

Although was in the assembly hall, everything went behind Efe. She neither saw nor heard anything at the hall. She could not help stop thinking about last night. She remembered her closest friend asking her why she came late: she didn’t remember if she gave her a reply.

‘what is the difference between a phrase and a clause? ‘ Mr. Ijisesan had asked the SS1 Art Students after he had thought for over forty minutes. About three students gave him satisfactory answers. ‘so, who has a question, he had asked thereafter. He sounded his question again as he looked into the faces of the fifteen students in his class. ‘Efe, do you have a question?’ Efe whose attention had not been in the whole of the English class was shocked to have heard Mr. Ijisesan mentioned her name . The whole class became calmer as the faint reply of Efe came up ‘Sir??’.
‘I said do you have a question? ‘ Mr. Ijisesan asked for the second time as he focuses on Efe like a Sports analyst who would not want to miss a single second in a match at its peak of tension. Now Efe had summoned fake courage, she didn’t want any more attention ‘ No sir, Mr. Ijisesan, I do not have any question’ Silently sighs and hope she sounded confident enough.
‘what is the problem Efe? ‘Her English teacher had asked in a defiant but more hostile manner.
Efe was shocked to have known that his teacher had noticed her emotional imbalance even though she had decided to put up a new face ever since the end of the assembly in the morning to avoid the questions of ‘what is wrong with you Efe?’
She had failed, and now, the cat might be let out of the bag. Things might begin to go against her plan.
‘ You must see me in my office when you are free today’ Mr. Ijisesan had commanded her before he left the class.
She was not going to disobey his teacher neither was she going to let him know what was wrong nor compromise her plan for anything that might come out of the meeting. The plan to stop living.
